1968 Triumph Bonneville
Original Title from 1968, Ground-Up Concours-Quality Restoration with 28 Miles on Odometer Since Completion, Two Owners from New
This 1968 Triumph Bonneville is a concours-quality bike that is stunning to look at and to ride. I bought this bike along with a 74 Commando from a heart surgeon in Michigan. He is a lifelong British bike enthusiast who has been restoring one British bike every year for the past 25 years. He is very meticulous about correctness and quality of restoration, which is pretty clear to anyone who looks at this bike.
The bike was originally purchased from a Triumph dealer in the Detroit area and was owned by the same family for the majority of its life. Several years ago, the gentleman I bought it from restored the bike from the ground up.
The bike was completely disassembled and all components were assessed and measured for potential future use. All chrome components were triple plated. Buchanan stainless steel spokes were added. All frame components were powder-coated. All engine bearings and seals were replaced, as well as pistons, rings, valves, and guides. Original British made Toga headers and mufflers were sourced from England.
Electrically, a new alternator was fitted but original points instead of electronic ignition for originality were used. The original auto advance was not reusable, therefore a new OEM Lucas unit was sourced.
All replacement parts fitted to the Bonneville were OEM British parts throughout.
The original seat pan was ultilized but new foam and cover were fitted. The original fuel tank was stripped and coated with POR15. New petcocks and British-made fuel lines were fitted to the new carburetors.
The original Smiths instruments were reconditioned by Smiths specialist Mark Bohman. The majority of the miles shown on the odometer are bench testing miles for calibration. The bike itself has travelled less than 10 miles since restoration.
We have just gone through the carbs with a clean, sync and tune. The bike runs wonderfully and has tons of power as you can see from the video. Generally starts on one or two kicks from dead cold.
This is a great opportunity to buy a twin leading shoe Bonneville with a pretty incredible restoration. This is not just a trailer queen however. Like all our bikes, we've gone through it completely to ensure it rides as well as it looks.
