1966 BMW R50/2
Stunning Concours Quality Bike, Near 100pt, Restored by Meticulous Aircraft Mechanic, Matching Numbers, Original Factory Pinstriper's Initial Still Intact Under Tank, Runs and Rides Excellent, 1 Kick Bike.
This 1966 BMW R50/2 is one of the best restorations of any motorcycle we've ever seen. It was fully and comprehensively restored in Chicago by an airplane mechanic who was attentive to even the smallest details. He was smart enough to recognize the original initial still intact underneath the tank from the person than pinstriped it at the factory. It was taped over for the repaint of the tank and can still be seen. The frame was powder coated and most of the original fasteners retained. It starts easily on one kick and runs extremely well. Believed to have less than 500 miles on the restoration. The bike was purchased by us from a good customer of ours, whose concours level 1959 Triumph Tiger T100 we bought earlier this year. He purchased it from a dealer in Chicago who had it on consignment for a customer who had four /2s.
Taking the dipstick out and peering inside reveals what looks to be a brand new motor. From what we were told by the previous owner, both the motor and transmission were both fully rebuilt. The bike holds the perfect, factory recommended "tick over", an extremely low idle.
While many people look for the R60 or R69S, real enthusiasts know that the R50 is a better bike. As the displacement increased, the bikes vibrated more. The R50 is so smooth going down the road, and is a real pleasure to ride. As with all our bikes, I have test ridden it extensively and we have adjusted the clutch and brakes. The only things keeping it from being a 100pt bike are a few very small touchups, one on the front fender and a few small ones on the rear fender, a slight abrasion on one of the pinstripes on the left hand side of the tank, and a few other imperfections in the rear fender on the right hand side of the bike from where the dual seat was previously installed (pictured.)
The bike comes with a New Hampshire registration and bill of sale transferred properly through my dealership.
